Look Who Came Back to American Winds to Visit!

Look who came to visit? Captain Steve Gunkelman (Express Jet). Of course we gave him a present. Steve was excited to share his family news. His wife has a bun in the oven They are expecting their first bundle of joy in two weeks. Steve said to hold off on buying pink or blue as they wanted it to be a surprise. This is awesome! We are on baby watch countdown. You know it's going to be adorable.

You might have read a few days ago that Karthikeyan Jeganathan, known as Karthi around American Winds Flight Academy...passed!

Here he at 10 years old with his parents, and now he is a, private pilot and headed for a career as a commercial pilot back in his home country of India.

All of us at American Winds Flight Academy honor the memory of those who died on September 11, 2001. 

On this day, Patriot Day, we think about the 2,997 that were lost and their families.

Everyone was a hero on that day and continue to be in our eyes and our memories. 

Vijay Bose at age 25 is studying to be a commercial pilot at American Winds Flight Academy. Within a few months he will have his commercial license, something he has been dreaming about since he was a little boy growing up in India.

When he first came to the US in 2010, it was the first time he had been in another country. His parents were worried about him being on his own, but Vijay said that Chief Flight Instructor and Pilot Denise Hobart and President of AW, Mike Kolomichuk made him feel right at home.

"Mike helped me through the visa process. Mike and Denise are good people. My parents are happy about what I am doing and they know I am in the right place," Vijay said.

He said there is nothing like flying in the clouds.

Vijay likes it in the states, but he has to be honest about the food. "I don't like junk food or fast food. I am used to us cooking at home. We do have fast food restaurants in India, but we eat something there more as a snack, not as our dinner."

He said he has been welcomed in the US. and has made friends at American Winds. "They have accepted me and we have fun."

Vijay has a degree in Aeronautical engineering and plans to fly commercial airlines in his home country.

Shane is on his way!

It has been an exceptional week at American Winds...Check out this picture of  Shane Mirtes  on the right and his Flight Instructor, Chris congratulating him on receiving his Commercial Pilot Certificate.  

Chief Flight Instructor and pilot Denise Hobart is proud of Shane. "It has been a great week! We have many great pilots in the making and look forward, along with them, to their successful futures. 

Shane is studying aviation through the Herzing University Program.

 Karthikeyan Jeganathan, known as Karthi around American Winds Flight Academy...passed!

He recently became a private pilot and is working toward his commercial license.

Karthi is a part of the International School of AWFA and is from India. He began studying at AW in January, 2012. "This has been a childhood ambition," he said. "Seeing aircraft growing up, I knew this had to be the best kind of job someone could have in this world."

He came to the US and American Winds to get his FAA license and said it was because it is well respected and recognized around the world.

"I am excited to be in America. Mike and Denise (Mike Kolomichuk, President of the company and Denise Hobart, Chief Flight Instructor), guided me and helped me a lot," Karthi said. "They are kind people."

His impression of the US so far is that people are kind and respect is given to every human, with no discrimination between the rich and the poor.

He is happy here! AND...those at American Winds are thrilled he is at AW.

His future holds a commercial license with a multi-engine rating and he plans to return to India to fly for the commercial airlines.
